Vivid News 24: The Election Commission has rejected former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s candidature as an MP. He opened the post of MP due to allegations of corruption in the Toshakhana case. In the recent by-elections, Imran Khan won six out of eight seats in the National Assembly of Pakistan. But within six days of the announcement of the results, the chairman of ‘Pakistan Tehreek-e Insaf’ or ‘PTI’ dealt a big blow to the Election Commission.
Political analysts claim that the Shehbaz Sharif government is planning to arrest the former Prime Minister of Pakistan. That is why they claimed that his MP post has been dismissed. On the other hand, Pakistani media reported that Imran may go to court against this action of the Election Commission. That indication has also been given by his party PTI.

What allegations against Imran?
Imran Khan became the Prime Minister in 2018. After gaining power, he visited several Middle Eastern countries. Imran received many valuable gifts during his visit to Arab countries. He returned the gifts to the government treasury. Allegedly, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan embezzled crores of rupees by selling those gifts. The Election Commission of Pakistan rejected Imran’s MP position due to that complaint.
What are the items sold in Toshakhana?
As per Pakistan government rules, Toshakhana items are sold at a 50 percent discount. Allegedly, during Imran’s tenure, gift items received from abroad were sold at a discount of only 20 percent of the market price. These included expensive watches, designer handbags, and many exotic fragrances. Established in 1974, Toshakhana is controlled by the Pakistan Cabinet Committee.
After being ousted, Imran Khan gave a big blow to Shehbaz Sharif’s coalition government in the recent by-elections. After winning one seat after another in the by-elections, he demanded a referendum for the seat of the prime minister. PTI has done well not only in the Parliament of Pakistan but also in the by-elections of the Punjab Legislative Assembly.
Imran’s party won two out of three seats there. But PTI lost in places like Karachi and Multan. Bilawal Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party or PPP won those two seats. Imran Khan lost their Prime Ministership in April this year. Since then, he has been trying in various ways to overthrow the Shehbaz Sharif government.
