Former UK PM claims Putin threatened to personally target him with missile strike

Vivid News 24: According to the former UK prime minister, Vladimir Putin promised to personally assassinate Boris Johnson with a missile strike just before sending Russian soldiers into Ukraine. The claimed threat was initially mentioned in a phone call just before the invasion on February 24, according to a new BBC documentary that will premiere on Monday.

Johnson and other Western leaders had been making their way quickly to K to aid Ukraine and try to thwart a Russian assault. According to Johnson’s account of the conversation, Putin allegedly said, “Boris, I don’t want to hurt you, but with a missile, it would simply take a minute” or something like that.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the head of Ukraine’s staunchest, now counts Johnson among his Western backers. He claims that, before the invasion, he was very careful to caution Putin that there was no immediate likelihood that Ukraine would join NATO and that any battle would result in “more NATO, not less NATO” on Russia’s borders.

“Boris, you claim that Ukraine won’t soon join NATO,” he remarked. “When will this happen? “Well, it won’t be joining NATO for long,” I retorted. “You understand that completely.”

Johnson remarked, “I assume he was just playing along with my attempts to get him to talk, based on the extremely comfortable tone he was adopting and the kind of air of detachment he seemed to have about the missile danger.

The BBC documentary follows the growing divide between the West and the Russian leadership in the years preceding the invasion of Ukraine. Zelenskyy is also shown reflecting on his unsuccessful aspirations to join NATO before the Russian attack. If you know that Russia will take Ukraine tomorrow, why don’t you give me anything now that I can use to stop it? He asks.
